Project Management
Whether your project requires no consent or once consent is received, before commencement of the works there are formalities to observe and insurances required. It is also wise to have a detailed list of the works you intend to carry out to give to potential builders, contractors and artisans, not only so that the quotes you receive will be easily comparable, but also that you can ensure all works are included.
Selecting contractors is also vital, knowing which actually have the training and certificates required, have the correct legally required insurances and being able to identify those who have not.
Then having signed a quote or several, there are rules and legalities in France very different from those in the UK, do you know what if anything you can change during the works? Do you know if it is possible to cancel a quote even if the work is poor or wrong and what you might have to pay in the event that you do?
What happens if the unexpected occurs during the works, a contractor doesn’t show and it delays other tradespeople, if concealed problems are found while works are ongoing, if the property is damaged by the contractors or by accident, who’s liable and how to deal with the process.
Knowing that the works are being carried out to the correct specification with best practice, the correct products, good workmanship and finished to your expectations and timescale gives you peace of mind, especially if you are not present for some or all of the works.
